Eddie Vedder’s Cubs song: “Go All The Way”

Would rather have this man start in the playoffs than Carlos Zambrano.

• UPDATE: Opening Day note to the Cubs: You get one more chance AND THAT’S IT I MEAN IT THIS TIME.

Eddie Vedder furnishes the new “Go Cubs Go,” “A Dying Cub Fan’s Last Request” or possibly “The Cubbies Are Rockin’.” (Download the official version straight from the Pearl Jam camp, because they’re good people).

Oh, sure, “Go All The Way” isn’t quite as hopelessly boundy, carbonated and terrible as “Men In Blue,” but what’s what happens when you write a Cubs-themed song and don’t ask Gary Woods and Jody Davis to perform on it. (I mean, Woods is a primal monster on the tambourine, but if you’re OK with your decision, Mr. Big Shot I Sold Out Soldier Field And Get Christmas Cards From Springsteen, whatever.)

Live version below is the song’s debut, taken from Vedder’s pre-set at Chicago’s Vic Theatre in August 2007; it’s a little bootleggy but includes a highly endearing sequence in which he completely forgets the words. If this is not a moment Cubs fans can identify, with, I can’t imagine what is.
